I'm glad to see the long awaited support for RX100 is finally here.
I've been using the RX100 for years and I've been eagerly awaiting this update.
After using the update I just wished there was more that you could do.
8K video and 4K image quality is not something that's really that impressive.
Especially when comparing it to the Super 35 mm on the latest Sony a7 II camera that shoots 4K.
However it is a nice addition to the RX100.
Running on a SD card it was very stable even when recording 8K.
The other nice thing is that you can now add in your Instagram and Facebook videos as long as you use the built in media management software on the RX100.
The one real downside of the update is that you can no longer manually adjust the HV color temperature of the recording.
So instead you have to use the camera's auto mode.
It seems like Sony didn't add this feature to the camera so that it could work with the new processing in the RX100M2 firmware.
There's also no high dynamic range color correction on the camera.
So you still need to do that in post production.
Hopefully in a future update Sony will add more of these features back into the camera.
The Sony A7 II has already added some of the features and it has been doing that for years.
I have to say this is one of the most user friendly video cameras I've ever owned.
It's been a pleasure to use it.
Despite all the changes from the RX100M2 to the A7 II,
it still maintains its usability and professional grade features.
The only thing that you miss out on is the option to manually focus the lens.
And of course the larger viewfinder that you have on the A7 II.
That's a small downside in my opinion but not something that is deal breaker for many Sony fans.
